Event Description

The Ambleside 22 Challenge – A Grand Tour of the Heart of Lakeland. A spectacular 22-mile adventure through the very heart of the Lake District. Starting and finishing in the vibrant Lakeland town of Ambleside, The Ambleside 22 is a true journey through some of the most beautiful and varied landscapes in the National Park.

What makes The Ambleside 22 so special is the incredible variety packed into a single journey. Over the course of the day you will experience almost every landscape that makes the Lake District so unforgettable — quiet hidden valleys, dramatic mountain backdrops, sparkling tarns, winding rivers, ancient woodland, traditional Lakeland villages, and sweeping fellside paths.

From the peaceful shores of Loughrigg Tarn to the dramatic caverns of Cathedral Quarry, from the iconic beauty of Tarn Hows to the towering skyline of the Langdale Pikes, the route constantly reveals something new. Waterfalls tumble through valleys, peaceful tarns, historic packhorse bridges cross rushing becks, and wide open fellside paths deliver panoramic views across the central fells.

This is not just a long walk — it’s a grand tour of Lakeland’s heartland. With 22 miles of varied terrain, steady climbs, and an ever-changing landscape, The Ambleside 22 is a brilliant challenge to train for — a full day of exploration that rewards every step with classic Lake District scenery and unforgettable memories.
