Event Description

New for 2027, The Buttermere Skyline is our Walk of the Year – a spectacular mountain journey above one of the Lake District’s most beautiful valleys.

Starting from Buttermere, we’ll climb onto Red Pike (755m) before continuing across High Stile (807m) and High Crag (744m). This high-level section offers some incredible views, looking down over Buttermere and Crummock Water, across into Ennerdale and towards some of the great mountains of the western Lake District, including Pillar and the Gables.

From High Crag, our route continues to Haystacks (597m) – one of the Lake District’s most iconic summits and famously Alfred Wainwright’s favourite fell.

At around 9.5 miles with 1,100m of ascent, this is a big mountain day packed into a relatively short distance. Expect plenty of climbing, rugged mountain terrain and some of the finest views in the western Lake District.

  • WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY...

Mountain Walks are a very professional team that show clear love for the fells. I have done two of their larger walks now and have met a few of the leaders who have all been friendly, knowledgable and supportive. Both of the walks I have undertaken, I have signed up for on my own and I certainly haven’t felt as though I was on my own. The people I have met and been grouped with have been fantastic which makes the day enjoyable. The routes that have been plotted are fantastic and I feel are well described and graded based on their difficulty and are true to how they are advertised. A fantastic company. I am already looking at my next adventure with them.
