Event Description
’Twas the Walk Before Christmas – Our Festive Lake District Social Walk
Christmas is coming, so before the festive rush really begins, why not escape to the Lake District for a day of fresh air, winter scenery and great company? ’Twas the Walk Before Christmas is our festive walking social, starting and finishing in the beautiful village of Grasmere.
This isn’t about chasing times or ticking off a big challenge. It’s about getting outside, enjoying a proper day of walking and spending time with a great group of like-minded people in the run-up to Christmas.
And because everyone enjoys their winter walking a little differently, we’re planning two walks on each date.

Festive Summits
Fancy heading higher? Our Festive Summits option will take us onto the mountains surrounding Grasmere for a journey of approximately 8–10 miles, typically taking in 3–4 summits.
Depending on the weather and conditions, this could be a route such as the Greenburn Round, taking in Helm Crag, Gibson Knott, Calf Crag and Steel Fell – a fantastic mountain circuit with superb views across the central Lake District.
Lakeland Wander
Prefer to stay a little lower? Our Lakeland Wander will be a journey of approximately 10–12 miles, exploring some of the beautiful lower-level routes surrounding Grasmere.
Although we’ll stay lower, this certainly isn’t just a gentle stroll. Expect a rewarding day’s walking through classic Lakeland scenery, with a route potentially incorporating Grasmere, Loughrigg, Ambleside, Alcock Tarn and the Coffin Route, along with wonderful views towards the Langdale Valley.
