Nantlle Ridge – In Pictures

12th September 2018

Beautiful, quiet and challenging are just a few words to describe the Nantlle Ridge. Starting in Rhyd Ddu and ending above Nebo, this 9km ridge links several Snowdonia summits creating one off the best traverses in the UK. If you are looking to discover the quieter side of Snowdonia and see more of this beautiful area then the Nantlle Ridge should be at the top of your list.

Nantlle Ridge

The Nantlle Ridge is a linear route that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the more popular Snowdonia peaks and offers a sense of remoteness with unbelievable mountain and coastal views. This really is a Snowdonia classic with great scrambling, numerous peaks to bag and a chance to stride-out along some beautiful grassy arêtes.

The highlight of the Nantlle Ridge is the scramble over the impressive sharp peak of Mynydd Drws-y-coed. A short yet exhilarating scramble which you can make as challenging as you want depending if you follow the faint path or stick to the crest of the ridge. The steep cliffs of Clogwyn Marchnad and Craig Trum y Ddysgl give you an incredible sense of exposure requiring a good head for heights and nerves of steel. Although this is the highlight of the walk there is still plenty more to come including the grassy arête to Mynydd Tal-y-mignedd as you head towards the obelisk followed by a steep scramble to Craig Cwm Silyn.

This is a proper hillwalkers route which gives you a little bit of everything and takes you deep in to the Snowdonia wilderness. A map and compass is essential as navigating back, depending on your route, can be a bit of challenge, so make sure you are prepared before undertaking the Nantlle Ridge.

The Nantlle Ridge is an absolute gem of walk and a must for all hillwalkers.
